PHRC hopes for more money from new budget

Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC), JoAnn Edwards,  joined members from the Senate Democratic Caucus Wednesday afternoon to discuss the work the Commission does every day to prevent discrimination in Pennsylvania. 

During her discussion she talked about issues of discrimination that are still being seen, and how if the PHRC was given more money from the budget they could prevent more of these issues and do greater work.

Rep. Christiana goes in depth about his property tax elimination plan

Rep. Jim Christiana (R-Beaver) discussed House Bill 2145 with The PLS Reporter Wednesday morning.

The bill, if passed, would abolish all property taxes in Pennsylvania. 

Rep. Christiana stated in his interview that he believed, "property taxes are the most unfair, anti-american tax" in Pennsylvania. He said that if the property tax was eliminated then there would be four ways to make up the money. 

His four ways included an increase in personal income tax, an expansion of the personal income tax, an increase in the sales tax and an expansion in the sales tax.

Members of Pennsylvania Principals Association share issues faced in PA schools

At a press conference Tuesday morning Joe Clapper, Assistant Executive Director for the Pennsylvania Principals Association, discussed the funding issues in PA education and the problems the schools have with teacher/principal evaluations. 

Clapper was joined by multiple principals who shared their stories and experiences from dealing with low budgets in their schools, and the issues they see teachers face when it comes to evaluations.

Rep. Sturla discusses potential economic benefits of Water Use Fee bill

Rep. Sturla (D-Lancaster) discussed House Bill 2114 with The PLS Reporter Tuesday. 

The Water Use Fee bill would set a fee on large water withdraws that are greater than 10,000 gallons a day excluding agricultural and municipal water usages. 

Rep. Sturla said, if this bill becomes law, then the Commonwealth could generate $245 million per year in revenue.
