Leach effort to prohibit use of animals in travelling circuses delayed amid controversy, debate

Senate Bill 248—legislation sponsored by Sen. Daylin Leach (D-Montgomery) that would criminalize the use of wild or exotic animals in travelling circuses—was held off for a scheduled committee vote Tuesday morning as Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee requested more time to review the bill and questioned its premise.

 

According to Sen. Leach, the legislation is aimed at prohibiting the use of animals at travelling circuses and carnivals and not meant to impinge on standing zoos, even when they transport animals on a limited basis.

Leach, Folmer discuss medical marijuana law at MMJ expo in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh was the host of its first-ever medical marijuana conference this weekend, where cannabis leaders, physicians and patients gathered to learn more and get better connected to the industry.

State Senators Daylin Leach (D-Philadelphia) and Mike Folmer (R-Lancaster), champions of the  medical marijuana legislation that was signed into law last April, hosted a discussion on the first phase of the rollout of the law, and the potential timeline for when the program will be up and running.
