Residents can access helpful Pittsburgh city data through new mobile app

The city of Pittsburgh launched a new website and mobile application to give residents instant access to important neighborhood data.

As part of the effort to promote transparency and open data, “Burgh’s Eye View” will allow citizens, for the first time, to gain visual insight into a wide range of data including incidents of crime, building permits and code violations, and 311 service requests.

Pittsburgh and Allegheny County pledge to end hiring barriers for criminal offenders

The City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County have teamed up to sign a White House measure Monday that would eliminate hiring barriers for individuals with criminal records. 

Mayor Bill Peduto and Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald signed the White House Fair Chance Business Pledge and called on area businesses and corporations to join the county and city to end unfair hiring processes against those with a criminal history.

Pittsburgh City Council President plans to introduce new rule punishing leaks from council executive sessions

In an effort to keep Pittsburgh city council members from divulging sensitive information discussed in closed door meetings, City Council President Bruce Kraus is proposing legislation that would institute a hefty fine against those in violation. 

This penalty will be a part of proposed legislation that would “clean up” the rules of council and how it is governed.

PWSA files lawsuit against former management firm

The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) filed a lawsuit Wednesday against Veolia Water North America-Northeast LLC for a wide range of claims related to the now-expired contract between PWSA and Veolia from July 12, 2012 to December 31, 2015. 

According to a statement from the PWSA, Veolia assumed responsibility for senior executive management, operations and other functions at PWSA under the contract. Veolia was tasked to use their expertise to manage and improve PWSA’s operations and identify efficiencies and additional revenue for the Authority.

Pittsburgh launches new building and zoning information website

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, the City of Pittsburgh Departments of Permits, Licenses and Inspections (PLI) and City Planning announced the launch of buildingeye, a new public website mapping tool designed to make building permit, license and code enforcement actions within the City of Pittsburgh more accessible. 

In July, City Council approved a bill enabling the city to enter into a software and support services contract with “buildingeye,” a firm that builds interactive city maps to track planning, permit, license and violation data.
