While Gov. Tom Wolf (D) tries to negotiate a greener future for Pennsylvania, some major names have already committed to using more renewable energy. Among them, SEPTA recently agreed to purchase a portion of their expected electricity needs from two solar farm in Franklin County.
 
The state’s largest regional mass transit operator announced in July their plan to purchase from the farms, which will be owned and operated by Lightsource BP. The farms will exclusively produce electricity for SEPTA with a rate locked in for 20 years.

After a week where climate change was discussed in Pittsburgh City Council chambers and by Gov. Tom Wolf, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto announced the Steel City would become the second city in the U.S. to adopt the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into its policymaking and planning for the future. 

This means committing to 17 goals including eliminating poverty, clean water, affordable and clean energy, and gender equality. 

A proposal that would require construction firms use the federal E-Verify program is set to take effect after the governor allowed it to become law without his signature, a rare move he has generally reserved only for budget documents.

The law, authored by Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Lehigh) and Rep. John Galloway (D-Bucks), is intended to ensure that construction workers are legally allowed to work in the U.S. E-Verify cross-checks information provided by an applicant with Social Security and federal immigration records to determine their immigration status.
