House cranks through amendment process on so-called “paycheck protection” bill

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Tuesday used the bulk of its session day to crank through nearly three dozen amendments—many of which drew significant debate—filed to so-called “paycheck protection” legislation.

 

The underlying legislation, Senate Bill 166 sponsored by Sen. John Eichelberger (R-Blair), would disallow the automatic collection of political action committee money from a unionized public employee’s paycheck, but allow the automatic collection of dues money potentially earmarked for political advocacy purposes.

Pittsburgh City Council proposes bills to help city homeowners, new and old

Pittsburgh City Council is considering legislation that could make first-time homebuying in the city a little easier and help alleviate some longtime homeowners from the perils of gentrification and property maintenance.

Councilman Dan Gilman (District 8), along with Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith (District 2), introduced three separate bills Tuesday that fall in line with measures laid out under the Affordable Housing Trust Fund passed a year ago, but would provide a better operational framework.
