Wolf signs executive order to overhaul state services for vulnerable populations

 

In an effort to improve state services for vulnerable populations across the state, Gov. Tom Wolf on Wednesday signed an executive order to launch a new office that will review and recommend changes to social and protective services.  

The executive order will establish the Office of Advocacy and Reform and will be made up of three positions: an appointed executive director, an appointed child advocate and the Department of Aging’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman.

PennDOT announces plan to roll out gender neutral driver's licenses, despite legislative skepticism

PennDOT is planning on rolling out gender-neutral driver's licenses in the next year, a spokesperson for the agency confirmed Wednesday, despite concerns from the chair of the House Transportation Committee that the action is circumventing the legislative process.

First reported Tuesday evening by CNHI’s John Finnerty, the plan is to give Pennsylvania residents the option of choosing X as a gender neutral option when obtaining a license. PennDOT spokesperson Erin Trasatt-Waters said the plan is to have the option available by next summer.

Kathleen Kane released from prison after serving eight months

Former Attorney General Kathleen Kane was released Wednesday from the Montgomery County Correctional Facility outside of Philadelphia after serving eight of her 10 to 23-month sentence for leaking Grand Jury material and lying about it under oath.
  

Kane checked off two firsts for Pennsylvania when she was elected in 2013. She was the first Democrat and the first woman to be elected to the position.
