Congressman Dwight Evans preaches bipartisanship at press club luncheon

Congressman Dwight Evans, a Philadelphia Democrat who spent over 30 years in the Pennsylvania General Assembly, returned to Harrisburg on Monday preaching bipartisanship and cooperation at the monthly Pennsylvania Press Club luncheon.

Evans, a former House Appropriations Chair in the state legislature, used the forum to reflect on lessons learned in the state House that he carried with him to Washington, D.C. Among them, communication and a willingness to reach across the aisle.

Seat Flipping with Sen. Katie Muth

Seat Flipping with Sen. Katie Muth

When The PLS Reporter visited Sen. Katie Muth (D-Montgomery) in her district office last month, the conversation kept getting interrupted by the sounds of construction going on in the building. The renovations on the office tucked into Royersford’s Main Street were a fitting metaphor for the first-term state senator.

Muth is still fairly new to politics. She worked as a trainer in college and pro football and holds a Master’s degree in sports medicine. Campaigning for Hillary Clinton in 2016 helped her pivot towards government work. She credits the connections she made and motivation from the election in helping her unseat incumbent Republican John Rafferty for the 44th District seat.

Dauphin County DA announces no charges against former rep; offers recommendations for legislature to deal with sexual assault accusations

On Monday morning, Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo was joined by Commonwealth Victim Advocate Jennifer Storm and Shea Rhodes, director of the Villanova Law Institute to Address Commercial Sexual Exploitation, to discuss the grand jury report that investigated allegations of sexual misconduct by former Rep. Brian Ellis (R-Ellis).

Chardo advised no charges would be filed against the former representative, but also discussed recommended changes in the grand jury report that would change the way the legislature deals with sexual assault and harassment cases.
