In a historic day for victims, Wolf signs legislation to expand protections for sex abuse survivors

In a historic day for sex abuse survivors, Gov. Tom Wolf Tuesday signed into law a package of bills that expand legal remedies for survivors and strengthen the law to protect victims of child sex abuse.

The legislation acts on a series of recommendations from a bombshell grand jury report that revealed widespread child sex abuse by over 300 Catholic priests belonging to Pennsylvania dioceses.

Bill to halt closure of Polk, White Haven centers put on hold

Despite passing the Senate last week, a bill to halt the proposed closing of two state centers has been put on hold to the chagrin of lawmakers from the affected areas.

The bill was set to be considered in the House Health Committee last Wednesday but House Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) appeared before the committee in an emotional meeting, requesting the bill be tabled until December.

Stein sues DOS over election machines

Former presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein filed a motion in federal court Tuesday against the Department of State to decertify voting machines in two Pennsylvania counties.
 
The motion comes as what Stein and her co-defendants consider a violation of the settlement in her Stein v. Cortes case stemming from the 2016 general elections. The decision demanded the state certify new machines in all 67 counties that meet new security criteria.
