Sec. Topper discusses GO-TIME savings and successes

On Wednesday morning Secretary of the Department of General Services Curt Topper discussed the details of how his agency reduced government spending on goods and services over the last two years, saving around $143 million. 


Governor Wolf created the Governor’s Office of Transformation, Innovation, Management and Efficiency (GO-TIME) in 2015 to improve government operations and services.

Second year GO-TIME savings hit $217 million

Gov. Tom Wolf held a press conference Wednesday morning where he announced the savings from the second year of his efforts to save money and reduce costs through the Governors Office of Transportation, Innovation, Management and Efficiency which is more commonly known as GO-TIME. 

Last year GO-TIME saved $156 million and this year it improved, further saving $217 million.

House Republicans set out to the high SEAS for budget savings

As the three-week stretch of budget hearings is starting to wind down, House Republicans on Wednesday unveiled an initiative that will allow them to hear from state employees instead of the agency heads that have been appearing before the appropriations committees since the end of February.

 

Dubbed “SEAS” for State Employees Achieving Savings, a cadre of House Republicans led by Rep. Marguerite Quinn (R-Bucks) announced the creation of a web portal that will allow state employees to directly contact the House Appropriations Committee with cost-savings ideas they have developed while operating on the front lines of state government.

Voter registration increases by over 250,000 in last year

The Governor’s Office of Transformation, Innovation, Management and Efficiency (GO-TIME) announced that, with the new online voter registration software, more than 250,000 Pennsylvanians have registered to vote in the past year.

The online voter registration (OVR) software was another part of the governor’s plan to improve online customer service in the commonwealth.

Legislators identify $3 billion in potential savings and nontax revenue sources

Sen. Scott Wagner (R-York) and Rep. Seth Grove (R-York) led the bicameral legislative Taxpayers’ Caucus Tuesday in a news conference unveiling more than $3 billion in potential savings and nontax revenue sources they say should be used before lawmakers turn to taxpayers to fill any existing budget holes.

“This is a new day and I don’t think Harrisburg has seen this before,” said Sen. Wagner about the things identified in the report, which also include recommendations about how to more effectively budget and implement economic growth strategies.
