Wolf’s budget proposal face a similarly tenuous road: the creation of a consolidated Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Department of Criminal Justice (DCJ).

Health and Human Services consolidation proposal examined by House Democrats

The House Democratic Policy committee held a hearing Monday morning to analyze the consolidation of the proposed Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

The Department of Health and Human Services would combine the existing Departments of Aging, Drug and Alcohol Programs, Health, and Human Services into the newly proposed department.

The consolidation efforts are headed by Gov. Tom Wolf in an effort to provide affordable healthcare to all and save funds for the coming and other future budget years, and—along with the consolidation of the Department of Corrections and Board of Probation and Parole—was accounted for in a House-Republican crafted spending plan.

Gov. Wolf to name Insurance Commissioner Miller as Secretary of Health and Human Services should consolidation become a reality

Gov. Tom Wolf held a press conference Tuesday where he stated his intention to nominate Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Teresa Miller to be the Secretary of the proposed Department of Health and Human Services.

This proposed agency combines the Departments of Aging, Drug and Alcohol Programs, Health, and Human Services into one larger department.

Allegheny County Executive supports consolidation of state-level human services-related agencies

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald came out Monday in support of a proposed state-level move to consolidate four human-services related state agencies.

 

In February, Gov. Tom Wolf proposed consolidating the Departments of Human Services, Health, Aging, and Drug and Alcohol Programs into one Department of Health and Human Services.
