Allegheny County Lead Task Force releases final recommendations

The Allegheny County Lead Task Force released its final report, including 24 recommendations, for how the county can best protect the public’s health against lead exposure.

The nine-member task force, launched and assembled in May 2017 by County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, recommended ways to decrease the public’s exposure, namely adolescents, to lead in paint, water, soil and other sources.

Pittsburgh, Philly submit their proposals for Amazon HQ2

Both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia have submitted their proposals for consideration for their chance to land the highly sought after second headquarters of Amazon after they announced last month that they were looking to build a second headquarters, touting 50,000 jobs and $5 billion in investment for the lucky winner.

The cities met the October 19 deadline for application submittal.

Pittsburgh to get new and improved public transit system

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto announced their plan Thursday for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), a high-speed transit proposal expected to better connect Oakland, home of the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, with downtown.

“This is going to be one of the most transformational transportation projects that this region has ever undertaken,” said Fitzgerald. “We’ve been working on this for a number of years.”
