Abortion bill, high school civics test pass House in afternoon votes

House committees examine proposal to require civics education graduation test

The House Education and House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committees held a joint hearing Monday morning to review House Bill 1858, legislation that would require Pennsylvania students to pass a civics education test as a prerequisite to high school graduation.

The test would be identical to the one immigrants take before becoming US citizens and students would have to pass the test with a score of 60 percent or higher.
