Bill putting new regulations on abortion advances from committee

Legislation that was only formally introduced on Friday that would put new regulations on abortion procedures in Pennsylvania was advanced from the House Health Committee Monday along a bipartisan 16-10 vote.

The bill, House Bill 1948, was introduced by Representatives Kathy Rapp (R-Warren), Bryan Barbin (D-Cambria), and Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster). It would provide for abortions to be limited at 20 weeks, instead of the current 24 weeks, and prohibit a form of abortion that provides for fetal dismemberment before termination.

The House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee held an informational meeting Monday to learn more about two proposals to tax natural gas extracts sponsored by Republican House members.

The bills are House Bill 82 introduced by Rep. Kate Harper (R-Montgomery) and House Bill 1536 introduced by Rep. Scott Petri (R-Bucks).
