HDPC discusses next steps on RGGI

House Democratic Policy Committee members met Friday in Havertown to learn more about the state’s options with the regional greenhouse gas initiative Governor Tom Wolf (D) committed to last month.
 
Pennsylvania will join nine others, including three neighboring states, in placing a cap on carbon dioxide emissions and inducing power plants to purchase allowances based upon their emission levels through a common market. Wolf announced an executive order October 3 to enter the “cap-and-trade” program.

House Democratic Policy Committee explores expanding film tax credits

The House Democratic Policy Committee's meeting Thursday on the state’s film tax credit followed a predictable script. One big name, along with a series of executives and industry insiders, all discussing how to get more money to bring more projects to life.

Pennsylvania has offered tax credits to production companies making movies, shows, and commercials in the state since 2004. This fiscal year, $70 million is available to firms spending at least 60 percent of their production costs in the Keystone State.

HDPC holds mental health discussion forum in Exton

Mental health experts joined citizens and House Democratic Policy Committee members in Exton Friday to discuss how schools and legislators can better help students experiencing anxiety and other mental health problems.
 
Students at nearby Downingtown East High School have seen four classmates and recent graduates commit suicide between February 2018 and January 2019. The community has sought answers and help to deal with this crisis and prevent further tragedies.
