Report: FBI launches corruption investigation into Wolf Administration’s handling of controversial pipeline project

The FBI has launched a corruption investigation into the Wolf Administration regarding its approval of a controversial pipeline project that stretches across the state, the Associated Press is reporting.

The nation’s top law enforcement agency is probing whether or not Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration forced staff at the Department of Environmental Protection to approve the Mariner East pipeline project, and whether or not Wolf or his staff received anything in return, according to the AP’s Marc Levy.

DEP secretary receives positive recommendation from Senate ERE Committee, despite pipeline controversies

Beleaguered by lawmakers and activists who vehemently oppose the Mariner East II pipeline in southeastern Pennsylvania, state Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Patrick McDonnell received a positive recommendation from the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee on Wednesday, paving the way for reconfirmation in the Senate.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers had called for McDonnell’s confirmation hearing to be delayed at the end of April as they questioned the role DEP played in Mariner East’s 350-mile pipeline. The pipeline has been plagued by spills, sinkholes and the destruction of water wells, resulting in multiple criminal investigations, including those by the Pennsylvania Attorney General and the Chester County District Attorney.
