House bills reignite debate over fracking in Delaware River watershed

A series of bills in the House are drawing attention to the longtime controversy surrounding a moratorium on fracking issued by the Delaware River Basin Commission, which is presently considering a full ban on the practice.

The DRBC launched the current moratorium in 2010, following concern from environmental activists that allowing the practice would get in the way of the agency’s mission of protecting the health of the watershed, which comprises parts of Philadelphia, Delaware, New York and New Jersey.
