Sen. Yaw answers questions regarding opioid issue

Sen. Yaw answers questions regarding opioid issue

Sen. Yaw (R-Lycoming) took time Wednesday to sit down and answer questions about the opioid and heroin issues in Pennsylvania, and how he hopes to help make a change by educating doctors and med students.

Sen. Yaw's plan involves making how a doctor or medical student safely prescribes opioids to patients part of the medical school curriculum. He realized that doctors he had talked to had very little education on pain management and prescription dispensing.

For the past two years Sen. Yaw had been working on bringing awareness to Pennsylvania about the opioid/heroin problem, and today he says they have accomplished that, but there is still a lot to be done.

Legislative committees use oversight authority to disapprove DEP’s new oil and gas regulations

Legislative committees use oversight authority to disapprove DEP’s new oil and gas regulations

In a rare move Tuesday, both the House and Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committees took the step of voting to disapprove regulations promulgated by the Department of Environmental Protection that would put new requirements on Pennsylvania’s oil and gas industries.

The regulations are due to be considered by the Independent Regulatory Review Commission next Thursday, and while Tuesday’s action by the committee does not stop the regulations from moving forward, it does start the process of allowing the legislature to take the formal step of moving a disapproval resolution should the commission approve the regulations next week.
