Gov. Wolf issues statewide disaster declaration for the opioid crisis

Gov. Tom Wolf announced Wednesday he is issuing a statewide disaster declaration for the opioid crisis.

 

The declaration puts into action a 90 day state constitutionally-limited period where additional state resources can be coordinated and regulations waived en masse in order to jump start an offense against the heroin and opioid epidemic.

Wolf cabinet officials express concern over House-GOP budget plan’s impact on education, veterans programs

Two Pennsylvania cabinet-level officials have expressed concern in recent days about how the budget bill crafted by the House Republicans and passed largely along a party-line vote last month will affect the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, and the Department of Education.

E-911 fee amount remains at issue as reauthorization deadline looms

The law mandating the current $1.00 fee on certain telecommunications devices used to fund county 911 services is set to expire on June 30, but as the Senate turns to consider a recently passed House reauthorization plan, the new fee amount remains at issue.

In House Bill 911, which passed the House in early May, the fee is increased to $1.65.

At a Senate hearing on the legislation Tuesday, government agencies and stakeholders all expressed some level of dissatisfaction with the proposed amount.
