House Education approves bills to provide CTE graduation flexibility and increase funding for EITC/OSTC

Meeting for the first time Monday for the 2017-2018 legislative session and under the helm of new Majority Chairman Dave Hickernell (R-Lancaster), the House Education Committee took up a number of bills, including one that would provide graduation flexibility for career and technical education (CTE) students and another increasing the limit for the Education Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC).

 

Both bills are sponsored by Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny).

Final report on career and technical education released by House select subcommittee

The House Select Subcommittee on Career and Technical Education released its final report Wednesday, co-chairs Rep. Seth Grove (R-York) and Rep. Pat Harkins (D-Erie) announced.

 

The select subcommittee was housed under the House Education Committee and formed as a result of House Resolution 102 in 2015 with the purpose of studying and reviewing Pennsylvania’s system of career and technical education, and suggesting changes.

Bill to eliminate future Keystone Exam development, provide graduation requirement flexibility to career and technical students begins legislative journey

The House Education Committee Monday unanimously approved House Bill 2381, legislation introduced by Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) that would provide graduation requirement flexibility to students enrolled in career and technical education (CTE) and eliminate the statutory requirement of the development of seven additional Keystone Exams.

PDE releases 2016 school performance profile report

PDE releases 2016 school performance profile report

The Pennsylvania Department of Education Thursday announced the release of the 2016 school performance profile (SPP) report.

 

The school performance profile is a publicly accessible database providing a performance grade for individual school buildings while providing a building level academic score for educators, providing information used in determining federal accountability status for Title 1 schools, and providing resources to support schools as they try to improve academic performance.
