Amid deficit projections, fiscal conservatives warn of looming budgetary crisis

Some of Pennsylvania’s most ardent fiscal conservatives are pressing colleagues in the General Assembly to correct the state’s financial course before the impacts hit everyday Pennsylvanians. 

Representatives Frank Ryan (R-Lebanon) and Seth Grove (R-York) are looking to instill a sense of urgency among state lawmakers as they spearhead a series of bills that aim to learn from the fiscal pitfalls experienced in other states — and enact reforms to avoid them.

Fetal remains bill passes House as lawmakers spar over its potential effects

House lawmakers passed a controversial bill Tuesday that would mandate medical facilities bury or cremate fetal remains following a stillbirth or miscarriage.

 

Under the legislation, health care facilities would be required to bury or cremate fetal remains, while families would have the option of taking possession of the remains for a private ritual burial.

Committee advances bill requiring burial or cremation of fetal remains

Vote on heartbeat abortion ban possible "before the end of the year"

A House committee voted Tuesday to approve a bill mandating the burial or cremation of fetal remains, coming just months after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a similar law in Indiana.

Supporters of the measure, authored by Rep. Frank Ryan (R-Lebanon), believe it will give families choice and closure during a difficult time. The bill would also give parents the right to request the remains to bury themselves, if they so choose.
