As lawmakers get to business on the crafting of the state’s multi-billion dollar state budget, one potential area of agreement appears to be funding for school safety initiatives, as lawmakers look to maintain or even expand on the $70 million allocated in last year’s spending bill.
The 2018-19 budget called for $60 million in spending on initiatives designed to support public school and community safety. It also brought funding for the School Safety Grant Program, launched after the Newtown school shooting in 2013, from $1.5 million to $10 million.
