Wolf, legislators and advocates join in recognition of Gun Violence Awareness Day

Gov. Tom Wolf was joined by legislators and members of CeaseFire PA and Moms Demand Action to discuss what Pennsylvania needs to do to continue to reduce gun violence in the commonwealth. 

The event was held in recognition of Gun Violence Awareness Day which is this Friday June 7th.

That question asked by Councilmember Curtis Jones, Jr (D-District 4) Monday at a joint committee hearing in Philadelphia framed the discussion around fighting the city’s vicious cycle of gun violence.

Councilman Gilman seeks to ban firearms in Pittsburgh city parks

Unlike Pennsylvania state parks where the use or possession of firearms outside of a law enforcement officer is prohibited, Pittsburgh City Councilman Dan Gilman (District 8) says no such law exists in the city for its city parks. 


That’s why on Tuesday he introduced an ordinance before City Council that directly mirrors state law to ban anyone from carrying uncased guns in parks except in areas designated for target practice or hunting during hunting season.
