House Republicans want stricter welfare eligibility requirements

The House Appropriations Committee questioned representatives of the Department of Human Services (DHS) about how the agency ensures it only provides services for those in need.


Republicans expressed concerns about welfare fraud and recipients that are not actively looking for work.


Republicans pushed for House Bill 59 that Gov. Wolf vetoed last session. The bill would have put stronger work requirements onto welfare recipients.
