In the House's last week of session before the June budget crunch, lawmakers passed several bills of note. Among them was legislation dealing with dogfighting by Rep. Dom Costa (D-Allegheny). HB 1197 would add animal fighting to the commonwealth's racketeering statutes, and its passage was lauded by animal rights groups.

For anyone who's noticed the beginning of construction season in Pennsylvania, the governor had good news this week. He and PennDOT announced the launch of the #ResurfacePA initiative, directing nearly $200 million for pothole and road surface repairs.

Robert Indiana, the mind behind the famous LOVE sculpture in Philadelphia and other pop art, died this week. The City of Philadelphia and art lovers around the commonwealth mourned his death.
